Coal Gasification: UCG）は，石炭層に注入孔および生産孔のボーリングを穿ち，地下の石炭層を原位置で燃焼・ガス化させることで，地表で一酸化炭素，水素，メタンを主成分とする可燃性ガスを回収する技術であり，これまで経済的・技術的な観点から回収のできなかった未利用石炭資源の有効利用技術である。これまで検討を行ってきた同軸方式UCGシステム（1本のボーリング孔のみによりガス化剤の注入および生成ガスの回収を実施）は，断層や褶曲等が存在する複雑な炭層条件下においても柔軟な適用が可能であるが，従来のUCGシステムと比較してガス化継続時間が短く，生成ガスの発生量が少ないことや，発熱量が小さいといった課題が指摘されてきた。また，地下で生じる燃焼・ガス化プロセスは直接観察できない事象であるため，周辺環境への影響の抑制およびガス化反応の効率の向上のためには，UCGの反応領域を推定することが必要であると考えられる。本講演では，中規模の石炭ブロック（0.5 m ×0.5 m ×2.5
