Utilizing the core symmetry oriented at a 45-degree to the principal axes, an incident polarized light beam can be completely rotated 90 deg. Simulation results by using a vectorial finite element beam propagation method show that the polarization conversion is achieved at a device length of 119 μm. Additionally, an improved PC element that can provide a high-consistent Gaussian-like mode distribution to decrease the splice loss with conventional fibers has also been studied.
