SK-2 株からビフェニル分解酵素2, 3-ジヒドロキシビフェニル-1, 2-ジオキシゲナーゼ(BphC)の精製を行い, BphC 酵素を精製した. この酵素の分子量は65kDaで二量体であった. 諸特性の検討を行った結果, 幅広い温度領域において活性を保持し, その最適温度は30°Cであった. 最適pHの検討に関しては, 中性からアルカリ性領域において高い活性を保持し, その最適pHは8.0であった. KmとVmaxを算出した結果, Km＝12.0 μM, Vmax＝154 mM/min であり, SK-2 株由来 BphC は2, 3-DHBP と比較的高い親和性を有していることが判明した. 精製酵素のN 末端アミノ酸配列を解析したところ, Pseudomonas sp.
