| 内容記述 | Rare-earth tantalate RTa_30_9 possesses the crystal structure called as defectperovskite. The author have successfully prepared the samples of RTa_30_9 (R=rareearth elements except Sc,Pm,Yb,Lu) and measured the magnetic susceptibility. The characteristic behavior in the temperature dependence of the susceptibility for each sample has been analyzed in terms of the crystalline electric field (CEF) theory. The susceptibility of GdTa_30_9 exceptionally shows no evidence for the splitting into Γ_6,Γ_7 and Γ_8 (in the Bethe's notation) from the degenerated ground state ^8S_<7/2> of Gd^3+above2K ,reflecting its isotropic wave function. Typical Van Vleck paramagnetism is observed in the results for EuTa_30_9・Becauseit is required for the compounds of EuTa_30_9 and SmTa_30_9 to consider the influence of the CEF on the higher multiplet,the detailed analyses are not shown in this paper. One can regard the symmetry of the CEF on R3^+ in RTa_30_9 as cubic.Although the cubic CEF on the f-electrons system is expressed by four parameters,it is sufficient to consider only two independent variables of B_4 and B_6, which are expressed as 4th- and 6th- order polynomials about coordinates of f-electrons.The method proposed by Lea,Leask and Wolf,by which the CEF parameters are transformed into x related to the ratio of B_4 and B_6, and W related to the width of the level splitting,is useful.The author has numerically calculated the special values of x in the aspects of the level splitting for each R^<3+>,and proposed an analysis in each restricted region of x divided by the obtained values. ln the system of RTa_30_9, an R^<3+> ion is surrounded by twelve 0^<2->ions as nearest neighbors (n.n.) and eight Ta^<5+> ions as next-nearest neighbors (n.n.n.) with cubic symmetry.The analyses were made by taking account of the possibility of the reverse of the sign in the 4-th order CEF,caused by high valence state of n.n.n. Ta^<5+>,which is predicted from the consideration based on the point charge model.The analytical results show fairly good agreement with the experirnental results.For Pr,Nd and Dy compounds,the reverses of the signs mentioned above are actually confirmed,which shows the influence of the n.n.n. on the susceptibility of RTa_30_9 is essentially important. The precise analyses for RTa_30_9 have provided the CEF parameters B_4, B_6, the level splitting scheme of the lowest J multiplets and the f-electron wave functions.
