 note = {application/pdf, The frequent use of narration seems to be one of the stylistic characteristics in English newspapers. In this paper, I examines the distribution of expressions using narration in English newspapers. There are four kinds of narration very frequently used in English newspapers: direct speech, indirect speech, pseudo-indirect speech and mixed speech. 'Say' is the reporting verb most frequently used in each speech. This reporting verb is most appropriate to report other person's utterances without subjectively. Therefore, we could say that the frequent use of 'say' is one of the characteristics of narration in English newspapers. 'Indirect speech' is used most frequently, 'direct speech' follows it, 'pseudo-indirect speech' and 'mixed speech' are less frequently used. I tried to show that combination of these four kinds composes one of the stylistic characteristics of English newspapers.},
