USU volcanic eruption in 2000 and the physical and shear strength characteristics of volcanic ashes are discusscd. The disturbcd samples of volcanic ashes were taken from the different six places near the volcanic crater, A series of test for physical properties and the direct shear test were performed. From the test results, it was shown that the properties of the almost all valcanic ashes by eruption in this time were similar to clayey properties.
