The vowels are differently cognized by English and Japanese speakers depending on the phonetic and phonological properties of each language. When English speakers listen to weak vowels, they use their prosodic feature, stress, instead of their segmental feature, quality. In contrast what counts for the cognition of weak vowels by Japanese speakers is quality rather than stress. The differences in cognitive clue cause Japanese learners to have problems in the comprehension of English speech. The present study proposes that Japanese learners use their cognitive key, quality, and transcribe weak vowels by Kana-transcription(仮名) and that the transcription lead the learners to improve not only their listening skills but also their speaking skills through English songs., 投稿論文}, pages = {1--7}, title = {英語の弱母音について : 日本人英語学習者の指導のために}, volume = {55}, year = {2005}, yomi = {シマダ, タケシ} }
