| 内容記述 | The definite article occupies the primary position in the article system in Spanish and in Italian. We examine the syntactic distribution of the definite article in a corpus (a Spanish text and its Italian translation, and an Italian text and its Spanish translation), taking into account the distributional correspondence between the definite article and other determiners, the null article included. We conclude that the definite article has a close connection with the null article in both languages, though the null article in Spanish is used more widely. It is also shown that the Italian definite article assumes a part of the functions of the possessive adjectives in Spanish. This fact is attributed to the syntactic status of the possessive adjectives in Italian. | |||||||||||||
