In this study we quantitatively surveyed the relationship between the riparian woods and the habitat of animals to determine management indexes of felling riparian woods in consideration of ecological conservation. We performed statistical analysis for birds fish. The analysis aimed to reveal how distribution of birds relates to stand size and stand structure, and how distribution, food consumption, and growth of fish relate to the presence of riparian woods. By piling up distribution of birds on map of environmental compartments of riparian woods, the analysis for birds showed the stand size necessary to the assure inhabiting of riparian-dependent bird species and the stand structure appropriate for the propagation of birds. The analysis for fish proved that riparian woods are beneficial in point of population density and growth of masu salmon (Oncorhynchus masou). |
