Thin membrane theory was applied to the toroidal shells of circular section, subjected to the action of uniform internal pressure. Experiments were made by using tire tubes of a motor car. The tangential and meridian stresses were determined by reading the surface strains for two perpendicular directions. Results of ex-periments were compared with the theoretical calculations. |
